Thread: Did Notre Dame duck Rice to ensure a bowl win?

We all thought that Notre Dame (6-6 regular season) was going to play Rice in the Texas Bowl.  But they switched to the less prestigious and less lucrative Sheraton Hotel Bowl on Christmas Eve to play 7-6 Hawaii.  I suppose Weis's coaching career at Notre Dame could not stand a loss to Rice (9-3 at the time), which would have been a good possibility if they went to the Texas Bowl.

But Notre Dame still got a $1.3 million payout from the BCS for just being Notre Dame.  That's in addition to their puny Sheraton Hotel Bowl payout.

Crazy rules, that BCS. Reward the incompetent teams over the competent.

Thread: Final Harris poll shows bias of BCS

I'm one that supports a play-off system rather than determining the NCAA finalists by votes.  The bias of the Harris Poll, which makes up 1/3 of the BCS rankings, is now fully exposed by the way they ranked undefeated Utah.  Utah beat the crap out of Alabama 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl in front of a partisan Alabama crowd, yet the Harris pollsters on January 8th still ranked 13-0 Utah as No. 7 and 12-2 Alabama No. 4 in the nation.  They have some splainin' to do.

I suppose Alabama and the SEC has better lobbyists.

Utah should be No. 1 in the nation because they beat Alabama by a wider margin than Florida.
And Texas should be No. 2 because they beat OK by 10 points, same margin as Florida, but on Oklahoma's home field. Florida's 10 pt win in the Orange Bowl was almost a home field.
